France and Vietnam deepened their strategic partnership on May 26, 2025, with the signing of multiple agreements during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Hanoi. This visit underscores France's commitment to strengthening ties with Vietnam amidst global trade tensions.
A key highlight was the agreement for VietJet, Vietnam's largest private airline, to purchase 20 additional Airbus A330-900 aircraft. This deal doubles VietJet's firm orders for the A330neo to 40, supporting the airline's international expansion plans across the Asia-Pacific region and potential new long-haul services to Europe. The agreement was formalized by Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Wouter van Wersch, President Airbus International.
In addition to the Airbus deal, agreements were signed to enhance cooperation in nuclear energy, railways, and Airbus Earth observation satellites. Sanofi will also transfer vaccine production technology to Vietnam, bolstering the country's healthcare capabilities. These collaborations reflect a shared commitment to sustainable development, technological advancement, and strengthened defense cooperation between France and Vietnam.
