Brussels, June 26, 2025 - The European Council gathered to discuss geo-economic challenges, the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. The agenda also included issues of EU defense and security, competitiveness, migration, the accession of Moldova, the situation in the Western Balkans, as well as internal security and countering hybrid threats. The European Council convened to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the EU's support for its sovereignty.
The summit emphasized comprehensive assistance for Ukraine, including military aid, economic support, and humanitarian relief. The Council called for intensified military aid, focusing on air defense and ammunition.
The EU reaffirmed its support for Ukraine's reconstruction and EU membership, despite Hungary's opposition. The conclusions were adopted without Hungary's backing due to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's opposition to military aid and EU membership.
