SUMY, Ukraine, June 12 - The Sumy region in northern Ukraine is experiencing intensified attacks from Russian forces, bringing the war closer to the regional capital.
Recent advances by Russian troops have brought them within 20 kilometers of Sumy's northern suburbs, increasing the city's vulnerability to long-range artillery and drone strikes. The attacks have resulted in casualties and displacement, with the number of internally displaced people arriving in Sumy increasing.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that Ukrainian forces are "gradually pushing back" Russian soldiers in the region. However, the situation remains critical, with evacuations ordered in over 200 settlements due to the escalating conflict.
