Ukraine Claims Strikes on Russian Military Targets, Including Gunpowder Plant
KYIV, June 11 - The Ukrainian military reported striking a major Russian gunpowder plant in the Tambov region overnight, resulting in a fire. The plant is considered a key facility in Russia's military-industrial complex, producing gunpowder for various weapons systems.
Tambov's regional Governor, Yevgeny Pervyshov, stated that Russian defenses repelled a "massive attack" by Ukrainian drones on the town of Kotovsk, where the gunpowder plant is located. He reported a fire from a downed drone but no casualties, and that the situation was under control.
The Ukrainian military also reported explosions at an ammunition depot in the Kursk region and an airfield depot in the Voronezh region. Reuters was unable to independently verify the incidents. The Tambov plant produces propellant powders for ammunition used in howitzers.
