Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has expressed his country's desire to expand cooperation with Chinese companies, including Huawei. This announcement was made during a meeting in Managua with Zhou Danjin, Huawei's president for Latin America. Discussions focused on cooperation projects between Nicaragua and the company. Ortega emphasized that China, under President Xi Jinping's leadership, promotes projects for the development of peoples, peace, and the common good. The meeting also included Nahima Janett Díaz, director of the Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Posts (Telcor); Salvador Mansell, Minister of Energy and Mines; and Laureano Ortega Murillo, son of the Nicaraguan president. Nicaragua re-established relations with China in December 2021 after severing ties with Taiwan. In December 2023, Nicaragua and China elevated their diplomatic relations to a "strategic association."
