Severe Storms Threaten Buenos Aires and Surrounding Areas

Several locations in the province of Buenos Aires, including Mar del Plata, are under threat of severe storms. An orange alert has been issued for much of the region. Mar del Plata's authorities have suspended school activities after 5 PM and canceled mass events. Restrictions may also affect the gastronomy sector. The National Weather Service (SMN) forecasts storms starting Friday afternoon, potentially intensifying at night with gusts between 51 and 59 km/h. Accumulation of water could exceed 100 millimeters. Public transportation will be limited, with the last bus service departing at 6 PM and resuming on Saturday at 6 AM. Orange alerts are also in effect for northern La Pampa, southern and central Córdoba, central and northern San Luis, southeastern San Juan, and southern La Rioja. Yellow alerts are active in southern Buenos Aires province, Villa Gesell, Pinamar, General Madariaga, eastern La Pampa, southern San Luis, central San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, Tucumán, Jujuy, western Salta, and the coast of Chubut. In Buenos Aires City, after experiencing a heatwave, storms are expected to bring relief on Saturday, with strong gusts and a temperature drop.
