Venezuela Urges Caribbean Community to Play Constructive Role in Territorial Dispute with Guyana

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez called on the Caribbean Community (Caricom) on Saturday, March 1, 2025, to play a constructive role in the territorial dispute with Guyana over the Essequibo region. Rodríguez accused Caricom of supporting a U.S. Southern Command plan to aggress against Venezuela and warned against legitimizing ExxonMobil's energy interests in the disputed area. Caricom had previously criticized Venezuela's naval presence in waters claimed by Guyana as a provocative incident, urging both nations to avoid confrontation and Venezuela to withdraw its ships.
