Cal Poly Pier Wave Energy Research
USA, Cal Poly Pier. The Cal Poly Pier will offer research access for wave energy innovations through the TEAMER program, sponsored by the US Department of Energy.
The pier, a 3,000-foot-long marine research station in Avila Beach, provides open-water access in San Luis Obispo Bay. This initiative aims to encourage wave energy commercialization by providing access to US-based facilities and technical expertise.
The Cal Poly Pier offers a drivable access point for deploying and testing equipment, including wave energy devices and sensors. The TEAMER program may allocate funding to accelerate marine energy technology toward commercialization.
TEAMER has offered 15 rounds of technical support requests, with deadlines on June 6 and Oct. 3. The pier is expected to attract collaborators focusing on early-stage research and development, potentially benefiting remote areas with new energy technology.
The Cal Poly facility marks an opportunity to learn more about wave energy technology performance in ocean conditions. This contributes to supporting the blue economy with clean energy jobs and a new ocean-related industry.
