China's Jimo Offshore PV Project Integrates Solar Power with Aquaculture, Aiming for 1.92 Billion kWh Annual Output

Edited by: an_lymons vilart

China's pioneering offshore PV-fishery venture, the Jimo project in Qingdao, is a collaboration between PowerChina and the aquaculture industry. The project utilizes 814.9 megawatts of high-performance Huasun V-Ocean solar modules, which are designed to withstand exposure to humidity and saltwater. The project is divided into two phases, with a total capacity of 1.1 gigawatts. Once operational in April 2025, it is expected to generate 1,920 billion kilowatt-hours annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.7 megatons and generating approximately $100 million in revenue annually. The aquaculture system supports sustainable seafood production, and the V-Ocean modules have been certified by TÜV SUD, having successfully passed 14,000 vibration tests with a power degradation of less than 0.5 percent.
