Google Launches Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, Enhancing AI Visual Creation Tools

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Google has officially released Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, an advanced artificial intelligence model designed to significantly improve image generation and editing capabilities. Codenamed 'Nano Banana,' this new AI model aims to offer users greater control over visual modifications, addressing previous limitations in AI-driven image manipulation.

Gemini 2.5 Flash Image introduces several key features, including multi-image fusion for seamlessly blending multiple photographs into a single visual narrative. It also ensures character consistency, maintaining a subject's likeness across various edits and generated images, which is crucial for storytelling and brand continuity. Targeted transformations, guided by natural language prompts, allow for precise adjustments such as background blurring, object removal, or pose alterations. The model's integration of world knowledge enhances the depth and contextual relevance of generated imagery.

The model is accessible through the Gemini app for both free and paid users. Developers can utilize Gemini 2.5 Flash Image via the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI. The pricing for developers is set at $30.00 per million output tokens, equating to approximately $0.039 per image, positioning it as a competitive and cost-effective solution in the market.

In line with Google's commitment to responsible AI use, all images generated or edited by Gemini 2.5 Flash Image will be watermarked with both a visible watermark and an invisible digital tag known as SynthID. This measure is intended to promote transparency and address concerns regarding synthetic media. Google's substantial investment in AI infrastructure, including a capital expenditure of $85 billion in 2025, supports the development and deployment of advanced models like Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, reflecting the intense competition within the AI image generation market.

The AI image generator market is projected for significant growth, with estimates suggesting it could reach $1093.1 million by 2031, driven by increasing adoption across industries such as marketing, entertainment, and e-commerce. The launch of Gemini 2.5 Flash Image reinforces Google's position in this market by providing precise, user-friendly, and cost-effective tools for creators and developers.
