Kung-fu robots deliver a knockout performance at a gala concert to celebrate the Spring Festival.

The 2026 Spring Festival Gala, hosted in Beijing on February 16, transcended its status as a mere cultural tradition to become a monumental exhibition of China's technological prowess. According to data from CGTN, the broadcast shattered previous records by amassing a staggering 23.06 billion views across all media platforms. A standout segment of the evening featured a futuristic collaboration between humanoid robots and wushu masters, effectively broadcasting the nation's strategic industrial ambitions to a global audience.

At the heart of this technological display was the "WuBOT" performance by Unitree Robotics. The company’s G1 and H2 models executed a series of highly synchronized movements, incorporating the intricate "drunken fist" martial arts style while expertly wielding traditional weaponry like nunchucks and swords. These feats were powered by advanced high-speed cluster control systems and sophisticated localization algorithms, enabling the machines to transition between formations at speeds reaching 4 meters per second. Unitree Robotics founder Wang Xingxing noted that the primary technical objective was ensuring the robots could maintain fluid movement transitions even while running at high velocities.

The stage also welcomed innovations from several other pioneering firms. MagicLab introduced the MagicBot Z1, which successfully performed a "Thomas 360" rotation—a complex maneuver cited as a first for a robot of its specific dimensions. Meanwhile, Noetix robots participated in a comedic sketch, showcasing their ability to replicate human facial expressions with 1:1 precision, a significant advancement from their previous capability to mirror over 30 distinct emotions. Additionally, the company Galbot contributed a short film featuring their devices performing everyday household chores, such as cooking and folding laundry, signaling a clear shift toward practical, consumer-facing applications.

The prominence of these commercial-grade robots, many of which are already available for purchase, highlights China's focus on "new quality productive forces"—a growth strategy centered on high-tech breakthroughs. By 2025, Chinese enterprises held approximately 68% of all global patents related to humanoid robotics, with a localization rate for critical components reaching nearly 75%. This rapid evolution was highlighted by the Spanish publication El Español, which described the 2026 showcase as a "genuine revolution" in comparison to the 2025 iterations, specifically praising the enhanced fluidity and autonomy of the machines.

Recognized by Guinness World Records as the most-watched annual television program, the Gala serves as a powerful signal of China's pursuit of global technological leadership. Since its inception in 1983, the event has evolved alongside the nation, and the integration of cutting-edge humanoid robotics marks a pivotal transition. These innovations have moved beyond the experimental phase into a realm of reliability and commercial viability, fundamentally reshaping the landscape of modern Chinese industry.
