The 2025 Tesla Model Y has achieved nearly perfect results in crash tests.
Tesla Model Y Achieves Five-Star Safety Rating Under Stricter 2025 Euro NCAP Standards
Edited by: Tetiana Pin
The electric crossover, the Tesla Model Y, has secured the highest possible five-star safety rating following the latest round of Euro NCAP crash assessments. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as the tests were conducted using the significantly more stringent evaluation criteria slated for the 2025 testing cycle. This success underscores Tesla’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing passenger safety within the evolving landscape of the automotive industry.
The specific vehicle subjected to these rigorous evaluations was a left-hand-drive, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant. In the critical category of Adult Occupant Protection, the Model Y scored an impressive 91 percent. Frontal offset crash tests demonstrated the structural integrity of the cabin, providing what was deemed “good” protection for the majority of critical zones for the front-seat occupant. However, during the most severe side-impact test involving a pole collision, a minor weakness was noted, resulting in a “marginal” assessment for chest protection.
Focusing on the youngest occupants, the Child Occupant Protection category yielded a strong 93 percent score. The SUV performed flawlessly in tests utilizing crash test dummies representing 6-year-old and 10-year-old children, earning maximum points in these specific evaluations. When assessing the safety of Vulnerable Road Users, which encompasses pedestrians and cyclists, the Model Y registered an 86 percent rating. The integrated Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system proved highly effective, successfully mitigating accident scenarios, such as preventing collisions when a cyclist is present as a car door opens.
A substantial contributor to the overall high score was the vehicle’s suite of Safety Assist Systems, which garnered a 92 percent rating. Key features within this package include the intelligent speed assistance system and a direct driver monitoring system designed to track alertness levels. The tested vehicle, which has a curb weight of 1979 kg, is equipped with a comprehensive set of ten airbags and incorporates a child presence detection system.
Successfully navigating these advanced protocols, which represent the cutting edge of safety testing for late 2025, further solidifies the Model Y’s standing. It reinforces its reputation as one of the safest electric vehicles currently available on the global market. This performance sets a high benchmark for competitors navigating increasingly demanding safety regulations.
