Nissan Shifts EV Strategy: New Electric SUV Platform and Model Launch

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

Nissan is revising its EV strategy, canceling electric sedan projects initially planned for its Canton, Mississippi site due to shifting market conditions. The company will now focus on electric SUVs, with production of a new electric SUV (PZ1K) planned for January 2028. An Infiniti version (PZ1J) is slated for production in May 2028. These SUVs will be built on a flexible platform supporting crossovers, sedans, and potentially a lightweight pickup truck. The new platform will feature upgraded electric motors, faster charging capabilities, and lower-cost lithium-ion batteries. Nissan also unveiled the all-electric N7 sedan in China, developed with Dongfeng, featuring 400-volt architecture and battery packs of 58 kWh and 73 kWh.
