Porsche's New AC Battery: Integrated EV Tech for Enhanced Performance

Porsche Engineering has developed an innovative AC battery system for EVs, integrating battery management, pulse inverter, and on-board charger into one component. This design aims to improve handling safety, enable faster charging through pulsed charging, and offer a 'limp-home' function by bypassing defective battery modules. The system, tested in prototypes, uses a Modular Multilevel Series Parallel Converter (MMSPC) for dynamic voltage modeling, allowing direct motor control and AC grid connection. A new control unit manages battery modules, streamlining motor and battery management, and charging functions. This technology promises scalability and increased reliability.
