CES 2026: LG Unveils CLOiD, the Vision of a “Zero Labor Home”
Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya
At CES 2026, LG Electronics officially introduced LG CLOiD, an AI-powered home robot designed to be the centerpiece of the company's “Zero Labor Home” strategy. Far more than a smart speaker, CLOiD is a mobile manipulator capable of performing physical household chores by coordinating with LG's ecosystem of intelligent appliances.
The Brain: Multimodal Physical AI
The intelligence behind CLOiD is powered by Physical AI, which enables the robot to perceive and interact with the physical world in real time.
- Multimodal Models: LG utilizes advanced vision and language models (VLM/VLA) that allow CLOiD to understand visual information—such as identifying a specific appliance or a laundry basket—and translate verbal commands into physical actions.
- Extensive Training: According to LG, these models have been trained on tens of thousands of hours of data regarding household tasks, enabling the robot to recognize diverse environments and interpret complex user intent.
- Affectionate Intelligence: CLOiD leverages LG's "Affectionate Intelligence" to learn the specific lifestyle patterns and preferences of household members, ensuring its interactions become more personalized and empathetic over time.
The Body: Precision and Adaptability
Designed to navigate human living spaces safely and efficiently, CLOiD features a sophisticated hardware profile:
- Human-like Dexterity: The robot is equipped with dual articulated arms, each featuring seven degrees of freedom (matching the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints of a human). Each hand possesses five independently controlled fingers, allowing for fine motor tasks like folding garments or handling delicate kitchenware.
- Adaptive Height: A tilting torso enables CLOiD to adjust its height from knee-level (approx. 105 cm) up to 143 cm, allowing it to reach both low cabinets and higher counter surfaces.
- Stable Mobility: The wheeled base utilizes autonomous navigation technology inherited from LG’s premium robot vacuums. This design ensures a low center of gravity, making the robot stable and safe around children or pets.
Integration: The Mobile AI Home Hub
CLOiD's head serves as a Mobile AI Home Hub, featuring an integrated chipset, an emotive display for "facial expressions," and a suite of sensors.
- ThinQ Ecosystem: The robot functions as a central conductor, integrating seamlessly with the ThinQ ON hub. It doesn't just send digital commands; it can physically interact with appliances to execute complex sequences, such as preparing breakfast or managing the entire laundry process from start to finish.
- LG Actuator AXIUM: Powering CLOiD’s movement is the newly branded LG Actuator AXIUM line. These compact, high-performance actuators serve as the "joints" of the robot, providing the torque and precision necessary for human-level manipulation.
Demonstration at CES 2026
During the keynote, Steve Baek, President of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company, demonstrated CLOiD’s capabilities in a real-world home setting. The robot was shown autonomously retrieving milk from a refrigerator, loading a croissant into an oven, and managing laundry baskets—demonstrating how LG intends to liberate users from daily manual chores.
