Microsoft has unveiled Copilot Mode, an experimental feature in the Edge browser designed to enhance user experience through AI integration. This mode offers a streamlined interface that combines chat, search, and navigation into a single input box, aiming to simplify browsing and reduce on-screen clutter.
With Copilot Mode activated, users can grant the AI assistant access to their open tabs, enabling it to analyze and compare information across multiple pages. This functionality is particularly useful for tasks such as researching products or planning trips, as it allows for efficient cross-referencing without the need to switch between tabs.
Additionally, Copilot Mode supports natural voice navigation, allowing users to interact with the browser hands-free. This feature is expected to be available soon, further enhancing multitasking capabilities. Microsoft has also announced plans to enable Copilot to access browsing history and credentials, with user consent, to perform tasks like booking reservations or managing errands on behalf of the user.
To maintain user privacy and control, Copilot Mode is fully opt-in, and users can enable or disable the feature at any time through Edge settings. Microsoft emphasizes that all data is handled according to its privacy standards, ensuring that information is secure and not shared without explicit permission.
Copilot Mode is currently available for free for a limited time on Edge for Windows and Mac. Users interested in trying out this feature can do so by enabling it in their browser settings.
