Google has unveiled new AI-driven features for Google Photos and YouTube Shorts, enhancing user creativity and content creation.
Google Photos Enhancements
Google Photos now offers two significant AI features:
Photo to Video: This tool transforms static images into dynamic six-second video clips. Users can select a photo and choose between "Subtle movements" or "I'm feeling lucky" to animate their images.
Remix: This feature allows users to reimagine their photos in various artistic styles, including anime, comic, sketch, or 3D animation formats.
These tools are accessible through the new "Create" tab in the Photos app, centralizing creative functionalities. All AI-generated content will include a SynthID digital watermark for transparency. The Photo to Video feature is currently available on Android and iOS devices in the U.S., with the Remix feature rolling out in the coming weeks. The "Create" tab is expected to launch in August.
YouTube Shorts Enhancements
YouTube Shorts creators can now utilize the Photo to Video feature to convert images into engaging short videos. Additionally, new AI effects enable transformations such as turning doodles into polished visuals and applying creative filters like underwater effects or simulated siblings. These features are powered by Google's Veo 2 AI engine, with plans to upgrade to Veo 3 later this summer. The updates are initially available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with broader availability planned.
Responsible AI Development
Google emphasizes responsible AI development across these new tools. All AI-generated videos and photos will be clearly labeled with SynthID digital watermarks. The company has conducted extensive evaluations to prevent misuse and encourages user feedback to improve the experience.
