Amazon Deploys One Million Robots, Launches AI to Optimize Warehouse Operations

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Amazon has deployed its one-millionth robot in its operations, solidifying its position as the world's largest operator of mobile industrial robots.

This milestone robot was delivered to a fulfillment center in Japan, expanding Amazon's global network to over 300 facilities worldwide. To further optimize its robotic fleet, Amazon has launched DeepFleet, a generative AI model.

DeepFleet is designed to coordinate robot movements within fulfillment centers. It promises to improve fleet travel time by 10%, leading to faster deliveries and lower operational costs. This AI uses Amazon's internal data on inventory movement and AWS tools.

Since acquiring Kiva Systems in 2012, Amazon has integrated over one million robots, including models like Hercules and Pegasus. These robots handle repetitive tasks, allowing employees to focus on higher-value roles. Amazon has also trained over 700,000 employees since 2019 through technical training programs.

The implementation of robotics has led to a 30% increase in roles related to reliability, maintenance, and engineering in some locations. These initiatives reflect Amazon's commitment to technological innovation and continuous improvement of operational efficiency.
