Croatian freediver Petar Klovar has established a new world record in the CNF (Constant Weight No Fins) discipline at the Freediving World Cup. The competition took place on May 26, 2025, in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. Klovar successfully dived to a depth of 103 meters.
CNF is considered one of the most challenging freediving disciplines. It requires the diver to descend and ascend without any equipment, using only a breaststroke-like swimming style. The diver must also retrieve a tag from the end of the rope and complete a surface protocol to demonstrate consciousness.
Klovar's achievement surpasses the previous record of 102 meters set in 2016. This record was considered exceptionally difficult, with few divers attempting to break it. Klovar had previously attempted this record in 2023, experiencing blackouts in both attempts.
His coach, Vitomir Maričić, emphasized the mental and physical demands of such a dive. Maričić also highlighted the growing popularity of freediving and Croatia's potential in the sport. He noted that Croatia currently holds records in two of the four main freediving disciplines.
