On July 26, 2025, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow presented the Key to the City to Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, recognizing his significant contributions to music and humanitarian efforts. This honor coincides with The Weeknd's return to Toronto for a series of concerts at Rogers Centre.

Born in Scarborough, The Weeknd has achieved international acclaim, reshaping modern music and supporting various health and humanitarian causes both locally and globally. In addition to his musical achievements, he has been recognized for his philanthropic contributions, including receiving the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award from the Black Music Action Coalition for his advocacy.

In celebration of "The Weeknd Weekend," the CN Tower was illuminated in blue and green, symbolizing the artist's impact on the community. The Weeknd is set to perform at Rogers Centre on July 27 and 28, with additional shows scheduled for August 7 and 8, 2025.
