When will you come home? (From “BORDER 2”)

The cinematic sequel to J. P. Dutta's 1997 war film, *Border*, has been officially scheduled for a theatrical debut on January 23, 2026, timed to align with India's Republic Day weekend observances. Titled *Border 2*, the highly anticipated production will be directed by Anurag Singh, known for mounting large-scale features such as *Kesari*. The film is presented as a joint venture between Gulshan Kumar & T-Series and J.P. Dutta's banner, J.P. Films.

The ensemble cast is set to feature the return of Sunny Deol in his established military role, alongside new principal actors Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh. The production's promotional campaign began on January 2, 2026, with the release of a re-envisioned musical track, "Ghar Kab Aaoge." This new version reinterprets the original song, "Sandese Aate Hain," from the first installment, which was based on the 1971 Battle of Longewala.

The updated track features a vocal collaboration including Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh. Mithoon recreated the composition, incorporating elements from Anu Malik's original score, for which Javed Akhtar received a National Award for lyrics for the first film. New verses were contributed by Manoj Muntashir Shukla to provide contemporary context to the theme of soldiers' longing. Producer Nidhi Dutta stated the re-envisioning intends to incorporate the stories of new soldiers and their families while preserving the original melody.

The official unveiling of the song took place at Longewala-Tanot in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, a location central to the 1971 conflict and a site used in the original film's shooting. Actor Ahan Shetty characterized *Border 2* as a tribute to military personnel, noting that Director Anurag Singh emphasized executing the film with "military precision." The original *Border*, released in 1997, achieved significant commercial success, establishing a high benchmark for this subsequent feature.

With an estimated production budget between ₹150–250 crore, *Border 2* signals an ambition to create a major Indian war film. Director Anurag Singh, who also directed *Punjab 1984*, brings experience in handling large-scale period narratives. The film’s narrative continuation will focus on characters portrayed by the new cast members, including Diljit Dosanjh. The production aims to leverage the patriotic and emotional resonance that defined the original film in the 1990s.
