AFRIMA 2025 Nominees Announced: Burna Boy, Davido Lead with Five Nods Each

The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has unveiled its highly anticipated list of nominees for the 2025 edition, showcasing the diverse and burgeoning talent across the African continent and its diaspora. Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Davido, alongside South Africa's DJ Maphorisa and Morocco's El Grande Toto, are leading the pack with an impressive five nominations each.

Burna Boy's album "No Sign of Weakness" and Davido's "5ive" have both secured nominations in the prestigious Album of the Year and Song of the Year categories. This recognition highlights their significant contributions to the contemporary African music landscape. The Artiste of the Year category features a formidable lineup, including Burna Boy, Davido, El Grande Toto, and rising star Ayra Starr, reflecting a dynamic mix of established icons and emerging voices.

Further cementing the breadth of talent, Nigerian artist Shallipopi has garnered four nominations, including a nod for Song of the Year with "Laho." Tanzanian sensation Diamond Platnumz, South African vocalist Tyla, and Eswatini's DJ Uncle Waffles have also received four nominations each, demonstrating the widespread influence of African artists. The diaspora is also strongly represented, with artists like Aya Nakamura and DJ Snake among the nominees.

The 2025 AFRIMA ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from November 25 to 30. This week-long celebration will encompass the AFRIMA Music Village, the Africa Music Business Summit, and the main awards ceremony, which will be broadcast live to an estimated 84 countries. Public voting for the awards is set to commence on September 10, 2025, inviting global participation in celebrating African artistry. This year's nominations reflect a record-breaking 10,717 entries, a testament to the growing global dominance of African music. A 13-member international jury has shortlisted 343 nominees across 40 categories.
