Malaysian Artists Garner Global Acclaim at 2025 Music Awards

Malaysian musicians have achieved significant international recognition, securing multiple accolades at the 2025 InterContinental Music Awards held in Los Angeles. This event, which began in 2011 to promote global unity and cultural diversity through music, saw Malaysian talent triumph over more than 500 finalists from over 50 countries.

Sabahan folk-rock ensemble Tuni Sundatang was awarded the Best in Asia (Asian Folk) Award for their song "Highlanders." This award acknowledges their dedication to preserving and promoting the Dusun culture through their distinctive musical style, which has garnered global resonance and highlighted their cultural preservation efforts.

Singer-songwriter Heerraa also achieved considerable success, winning the Best in North America (Folk) Award for her song "Love Wins." Her achievements were further bolstered by her recognition as Female Songwriter of the Year at the International Singer-Songwriters Association Awards in Atlanta, underscoring her growing international influence and artistic merit.

Pianist and new age composer Edward Kee was honored with the Best in Pangea (New Age) Award for his composition "Rise Up," celebrating his innovative musical approach and his skill in creating immersive soundscapes. The success of these artists reflects Malaysia's expanding presence in the global music industry.

Several other Malaysian artists were recognized as finalists, including Vincent Yong, TRADITOPIA, and Isabelle Wyen-Lam Yong. Their nominations signify the diverse talent emerging from Malaysia and its increasing impact on the international music scene. The InterContinental Music Awards serve as a vital platform for artists, fostering growth and connections within the global music community.
