Cecily von Ziegesar, the author of the original *Gossip Girl* book series, is developing a new, standalone novel centered exclusively on the character Blair Waldorf, tentatively titled *Blair*. The narrative is projected to begin approximately two decades after the conclusion of the initial book series, positioning Waldorf in her forties as she navigates a substantially altered modern landscape of Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

The forthcoming novel, secured by Alloy Entertainment for worldwide English-language distribution, is tentatively scheduled for release in the summer of 2027 via Grand Central Publishing in the United States. Alloy Entertainment, which has a history with young adult franchises such as *The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants* and *Pretty Little Liars*, was acquired by Warner Bros. Television Group in June 2012 for a reported price exceeding $100 million. The original *Gossip Girl* book series commenced in 2002, with its final primary installment released in 2011, following the initial novel’s run as a number one *New York Times* bestseller.

The new book is anticipated to follow the former New York City socialite as she attempts to re-enter Manhattan’s elite social echelon and reclaim her former status. This literary continuation diverges from the television adaptation’s finale, which depicted Blair marrying Chuck Bass and raising a son named Henry. In contrast, the original novels concluded with Blair not marrying Bass and completing her undergraduate studies at Yale University.

Leighton Meester, the actress who portrayed Blair Waldorf in the CW television adaptation that ran for six seasons between 2007 and 2012, has confirmed her awareness of the project. Meester disclosed at the SXSW conference in March 2026 that she had already reviewed the manuscript’s initial seven chapters, thereby verifying the book’s existence as a forthcoming publication. Von Ziegesar’s literary universe, which chronicles the privileged teenagers attending elite private schools on the Upper East Side, has significantly influenced popular culture, inspiring multiple adaptations, including a sequel television series that streamed on HBO Max from 2021 until 2023.
