Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir Series Set for Spring 2026 Global Launch on Prime Video

Prime Video has officially confirmed the global premiere window for Spider-Noir, a highly anticipated live-action series that reimagines the iconic web-slinger within a gritty, alternate-history framework. Slated for a worldwide debut in the spring of 2026, the project is a collaborative effort between Sony Pictures Television, Prime Video, and MGM+. This adaptation is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first time Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage will take on a leading role in a television production. The series is expected to lean heavily into the dark, atmospheric aesthetics of the original comic books, providing a stark contrast to the more vibrant iterations of the character seen in recent cinematic outings.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the production is the choice of visual presentation. The series will be available in two distinct formats: Authentic Black & White and True-Hue Full Color. This dual-format approach allows viewers to choose the level of immersion they desire in the 1930s New York City setting. Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Reilly, a private investigator struggling to make ends meet during the height of the Great Depression. Reilly is a man haunted by a profound personal tragedy, which eventually forces him to don his mask once again and return to the dangerous life of a vigilante. While Cage previously voiced a version of this character in the acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this series offers him the opportunity to fully realize the character in a live-action, physical performance.
The series is being guided by showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who have developed a narrative that focuses on an aging, weary protagonist. Unlike younger versions of the hero, this Ben Reilly is a man who has already endured his moment of disillusionment, making him a more complex and cynical figure within the superhero landscape. The supporting cast brings additional depth to this noir-inspired world. Lamorne Morris portrays Robbie Robertson, a tenacious journalist who isn't afraid to pursue high-stakes stories in the corrupt environment of 1930s Manhattan. Meanwhile, Li Jun Li takes on the role of Kat Hardy, a glamorous club singer described as a classic femme fatale who draws Reilly into a dangerous web of underground conspiracies and criminal intrigue.
The conflict in Spider-Noir is driven by a powerful group of antagonists who threaten the stability of the city. Brendan Gleeson stars as the notorious mob boss Silvermane, a character who becomes the target of multiple assassination attempts, a situation that inadvertently pulls Reilly into a much larger and more dangerous conspiracy than he initially anticipated. Jack Huston joins the cast as Flint Marko, the man known as Sandman, who operates as the hired muscle for the city's criminal elite. To balance the dark world of crime, Karen Rodriguez appears as Janet, the dedicated secretary at Reilly’s detective agency, providing a grounded presence in the protagonist's chaotic life as he balances his professional duties with his secret activities.
The creative pedigree behind the scenes is equally impressive, ensuring a high-quality production. Harry Bradbeer, the director known for his stylistic work on the hit series Fleabag, directed the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer. He works alongside the powerhouse production team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, all of whom were instrumental in the success of the Spider-Verse animated franchise. Nicolas Cage himself played a significant role in shaping the show's aesthetic; he revealed that the option to watch the series in monochrome was his own suggestion. Cage was deeply inspired by the classic noir films of the 1940s and the legendary performances of Humphrey Bogart, and he wanted to provide a way for the audience to experience that same timeless, cinematic atmosphere.
Spider-Noir will consist of eight episodes, a structure designed to provide a tight and compelling narrative arc. The production process was a significant undertaking, with filming taking place in Los Angeles from August 2024 through March 2025. The release strategy is tailored for maximum impact across different platforms. In the United States, the series is scheduled to premiere on MGM+ on May 25, 2026. This will be followed shortly by a global launch on Prime Video on May 27, 2026. International viewers can expect a binge-style release, with all eight episodes likely becoming available at once, allowing fans to fully immerse themselves in the dark and dangerous world of Ben Reilly's New York.
