The cinematic continuation of the acclaimed series 'Peaky Blinders,' titled 'The Immortal Man,' has been officially scheduled for release on the Netflix streaming platform in 2026. Creator Steven Knight has hyped the upcoming feature film, describing the quality as something truly mind-bending. This full-length motion picture, helmed by director Tom Harper, is intended to serve as the definitive final chapter for the narrative arc of Thomas Shelby, the central character who will once again be portrayed by Cillian Murphy.

Cillian Murphy has confirmed his return to the iconic role of Thomas Shelby. He expressed a strong sense of obligation to the dedicated fanbase, acknowledging that their massive support significantly contributed to the original series' success during its run from 2013 through 2022. The film’s setting will be steeped in the turmoil of the Second World War. This placement evolves from Knight’s initial vision, which was meant to conclude with the sound of the first air raid siren over Birmingham in 1939. However, Knight later revised the screenplay, opting for a much grander scope, promising a story that stretches both within and beyond the confines of the war years.

Director Tom Harper, who previously helmed episodes during the show's inaugural season back in 2013, is reuniting with both Knight and Murphy to bring this conclusion to fruition. The confirmed returning cast members, besides Murphy, include Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, and Ian Peck. The ensemble will also be bolstered by significant new additions, such as Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Rebecca Ferguson. Conversely, Sam Claflin, who played the role of Oswald Mosley, has confirmed that he will not be appearing in the movie.

Principal photography for 'The Immortal Man' commenced on September 30, 2024, within the United Kingdom, utilizing key filming locations in Birmingham and Liverpool, and wrapped up by December 2024. The cinematic launch of 'The Immortal Man' is anticipated to be a major event, as the creator has affirmed that the film will receive a theatrical release before it transitions to Netflix. Furthermore, Murphy will be taking on an executive producer role for the project.

Steven Knight is simultaneously developing two other distinct projects set within the 'Peaky Blinders' universe. These include two entirely new six-episode series focusing on the next generation of the Shelby family. Additionally, there are plans for spin-offs; one project will delve into the backstory of Polly Gray, while another is slated to explore the criminal operations conducted in Boston, USA. Consequently, 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year, marked not only by the return of Thomas Shelby but also by a significant expansion of the criminal empire mythology crafted by Steven Knight.
