The 21st edition of the Lucca Film Festival has begun in Tuscany, running from September 20th to September 28th. This year's festival opened with a special tribute to American actor and producer Kevin Spacey, who was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. This honor recognizes Spacey's significant impact on cinema and his artistic contributions.

A major highlight of the festival was the world premiere of Spacey's latest film, '1780'. Directed by Dustin Fairbanks, the historical thriller is set during the American Revolutionary War in Pennsylvania. The plot follows a wounded soldier who seeks refuge with a trapper and his son, exploring themes of loyalty and survival amidst conflict. The film also features performances by DJ Qualls and R. Keith Harris.

Spacey also participated in a masterclass on September 21st at Cinema Astra, offering festival-goers insights into his creative process and career. The festival's program also includes an homage to director David Lynch and a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Lamberto Bava's cult classic 'Demoni' on the closing night, September 28th. Director Gianni Amelio is also being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award on September 24th, with screenings of his films "La tenerezza" and "Il signore delle formiche" scheduled.
