The 78th Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is scheduled to take place from August 14-20, 2025, showcasing a diverse range of cinematic talent. Under the leadership of CEO and Festival Director Paul Ridd and Festival Producer Emma Boa, the festival aims to champion emerging filmmakers and engage a global audience.
The festival will open with Eva Victor's comedy-drama *Sorry, Baby*, which previously won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. A24 acquired worldwide rights to the film for nearly $8 million. The festival will close with the world premiere of Paul Sng's documentary *Reality Is Not Enough*, a film exploring the life and work of author Irvine Welsh, featuring readings by notable actors. The EIFF will also host the Sean Connery Prize competition, awarding £50,000 to a winning filmmaker, with Jack King having won the inaugural prize in 2024 for his film *The Ceremony*. The festival's venues include Filmhouse, Cameo Cinema, Vue Omni, and a pop-up screen at the National Gallery of Scotland's Hawthornden Theatre, with Tollcross Central Hall serving as the industry hub.
