Legendary Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 24th Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), taking place from June 13-22, 2025, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Known for his distinctive long takes and philosophical themes, Tarr will also conduct a masterclass for emerging filmmakers and festival attendees.

TIFF will showcase a retrospective of Tarr's influential body of work, with the exception of 'Sátántangó'. Tarr's career began with documentaries before his feature debut at 22 with 'Family Nest' (1977). His early works explored social realism and political critique, often drawing comparisons to John Cassavetes.

Later in his career, Tarr developed his signature style of extended, stylized shots and collaborated with writer László Krasznahorkai, most notably on the 439-minute film 'Sátántangó' (1994). His film 'The Turin Horse' (2011) received the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival. Tarr declared 'The Turin Horse' as his final film.
