Tania Anaya's animated film, "Nimuendajú," has been selected to represent Brazil at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, scheduled to take place from June 8-14, 2025. The film, distributed by O2 Play, is a 2D animated biopic centered around Curt Unckel, a German social scientist who lived among indigenous peoples in Brazil for 40 years.
Unckel, later known as Nimuendajú, became a significant figure in Brazilian social sciences. The film is a co-production between Anaya Produções Culturais (Brazil) and Apus Animation (Peru). It explores Unckel's life, his dedication to understanding indigenous cultures, and his role as a witness to their persecution.
The Annecy Festival will showcase animation from various countries. "Nimuendajú" is among the 21 feature films selected for the competition. The film is aimed at older audiences and delves into Unckel's experiences after he moved to Brazil in 1903 and lived with the Guarani people.
