Bengali cinema is celebrating a remarkable achievement as the heist drama Bohurupi, directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, has crossed an impressive Rs 13 crore this weekend. It becomes the first Bengali film of 2024 to reach such heights at the box office.
Despite facing tough competition from major releases like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again, Bohurupi has captivated audiences nationwide, showcasing its widespread appeal. The film celebrated a milestone with 150 houseful shows in just three days over the Diwali weekend.
Directors Nandita and Shiboprosad expressed their gratitude, stating, "It's been heartening to see Bohurupi hold its own alongside major blockbusters. This journey has shown that Bengali cinema can thrive on a national scale." Released on October 18, the film stars Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Abir Chatterjee, Ritabhari Chakraborty, and Koushani Mukherjee.
With a production budget of Rs 4 crore, Bohurupi has shattered previous records, achieving the biggest box office debut for a Bengali film in 2024, and is set to redefine the possibilities for regional cinema.
