The Centre Pompidou is expanding its global presence with a new outpost in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, named Centre Pompidou x Paraná. The project, costing $240 million, aims to spotlight South American art and regional culture. The opening is planned for November 2027.
Paraguayan architect Solano Benítez, who was awarded the Golden Lion at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale, will design the new center. His design will emphasize sustainability by using locally sourced materials to harmonize with the surrounding lush forest. The center will feature exhibition spaces, research labs, and a public plaza.
The announcement coincides with the Brazil-France 2025 Season, a cultural exchange taking place across Paris and other French cities from April to September. This includes exhibitions such as a Lucas Arruda monograph at the Musée d'Orsay (through July 20), a major survey of Lygia Pape at the Bourse de Commerce (Sept 10, 2025 – January 26, 2026) and the group show “Horizontes: Contemporary Art du Brazil” at the Grand Palais (June 6 – July 25, 2025).
