Babchi Plant Shows Promise in Anti-Aging and Skin Regeneration

Edited by: 🐬Maria Sagir

The babchi plant, *Psoralea corylifolia*, traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, is gaining recognition for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and skin-regenerative properties. Originating in India, the plant's seeds contain an oil rich in bakuchiol, a compound studied for its effects on skin health and inflammation. Research indicates bakuchiol activates skin receptors promoting cell turnover and collagen production, offering anti-aging benefits similar to retinol but without the associated irritation. Studies on mice suggest potential anti-arthritic effects through inflammation inhibition. Historically, babchi has treated vitiligo due to its psoralen content, which aids melanin production when exposed to sunlight. Babchi is commonly applied topically via creams, serums, and oils. While generally safe, its use should be guided by professionals, especially for medicinal purposes.
