Archaeologists have discovered an ancient Maya ceramic vessel in Zumpango Cave, located in the Garra de Jaguar cave system in Quintana Roo, Mexico. The cave, initially surveyed in 2015, shows evidence of human activity, suggesting its significance in ancient rituals.

A team including members of Urban Cenotes and specialists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) studied the site. They found a globular ceramic pot, believed to date back to the Late Postclassic period (1200-1550 AD), which was likely a ritual offering. The discovery was reported by members of the Cenotes Urbanos organization.

According to INAH, the vessel was intentionally placed upside down in a small alcove. The pot features two handles and geometric designs painted in black. The INAH also reported the recovery of a ceramic net weight and a carved staircase leading to an underground river. This discovery highlights the cave's role in ritual activities for the Maya people.
