The Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano in eastern Indonesia erupted on Monday, May 19, 2025, spewing clouds of gas and volcanic ash up to 1.2 kilometers into the sky. Authorities have raised the alert level to the highest possible.

The first eruption occurred at 00:08 local time, followed by a second at 09:36. Increased volcanic activity prompted Indonesia's geological agency to raise the alert level on Sunday evening.

Evacuation and Safety Measures

Authorities are warning of the potential for even larger eruptions. Residents are advised to wear masks to protect themselves from volcanic ash. Tourists are urged to stay at least six kilometers away from the crater, and there is a risk of landslides or mudflows in case of heavy rain.
