Gunung Marapi, a volcano located in Tanah Datar and Agam regencies, West Sumatra, Indonesia, erupted recently. The eruption sent an ash column approximately 250 meters above the peak, reaching about 3,141 meters above sea level. The eruption, recorded on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 15:32 Western Indonesian Time, produced a gray ash column of moderate intensity, drifting northeast. Seismic activity registered a maximum amplitude of 31.2 mm, lasting approximately 43 seconds. People and climbers are prohibited from entering a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater (Kawah Verbeek). Residents near rivers originating from the Marapi peak are advised to be vigilant against potential lahar floods, especially during the rainy season. In the event of ashfall, residents are recommended to wear masks to avoid respiratory problems. As of this report, there have been no reports of direct impact on residential areas. The public is urged to remain calm and follow local authorities' instructions.
