Himachal Pradesh is grappling with severe monsoon-induced disasters, including flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides, leading to significant loss of life and extensive infrastructure damage.
Between June 20 and July 15, 2025, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) reported 106 fatalities, with 62 deaths attributed to rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, and 44 due to road accidents. Additionally, 33 individuals remain missing. The Mandi district has been particularly affected, with 17 deaths and 31 missing persons reported. Rescue operations are ongoing, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local authorities actively involved in relief efforts.
The monsoon has also caused significant infrastructure damage. As of July 12, 2025, 249 roads have been closed, including 207 in Mandi district. The SEOC estimates losses exceeding ₹751 crore, encompassing damage to roads, power transformers, and water supply schemes. The Public Works Department (PWD) has allocated ₹50 lakh as relief to each affected assembly constituency, with an additional ₹2 crore per constituency for repair and reopening of roads.
Authorities have issued alerts for heavy rainfall in various districts and have urged residents and tourists to avoid non-essential travel and stay updated with weather advisories. The government continues to coordinate with central agencies to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance to the affected regions.
