The India Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather alert. Assam and Meghalaya are facing extreme rainfall, with Silchar recording an astounding 42 cm.

Northeastern states, along with Kerala, Odisha, and West Bengal, are experiencing heavy showers. The IMD has urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

The advisory warns of potential flooding, falling trees, and travel disruptions. Thunderstorms with strong winds have been reported across many parts of the country.
