Mount Dukono in North Maluku, Indonesia, erupted on July 27, 2025, releasing volcanic ash up to 3,500 meters above its summit. The eruption produced a white to gray ash column drifting northeast. The volcano, standing at 1,087 meters above sea level, is currently at Alert Level II (Advisory).
Authorities have advised residents, visitors, and tourists to avoid climbing or approaching the Malupang Warirang Crater and to stay outside a 4-kilometer radius. Given the periodic nature of ash eruptions and their dependence on wind direction and speed, the affected area may vary. Residents are also advised to keep masks or face coverings on hand to protect against respiratory health risks posed by volcanic ash.
Mount Dukono is known for its consistent, low to moderate volcanic activity, marked by frequent eruptions. One of Indonesia’s active volcanoes, it erupts almost every year, with ash emissions often affecting nearby communities and local activities.
