Southern Brazil is experiencing an intense cold snap. The first major polar air mass of the year has brought record low temperatures to the Rio Grande do Sul region. São José dos Ausentes saw snowfall on Thursday.
Cambará do Sul recorded the state's lowest temperature on Friday at 0.9°C, with a wind chill reaching -3°C. Several other municipalities in the Serra region also experienced freezing temperatures.
The cold weather is expected to continue through the weekend. Clear skies and continued low temperatures are forecast for the Serra region, with possible frost on Saturday morning.
