Authorities in Kolkata are on high alert following the sighting of multiple drone-like objects hovering over the city on Monday night, May 19, 2025. Police officials disclosed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, that a multi-angle investigation has been launched, including the possibility of espionage.
At least 8-10 objects were observed over key locations such as Hastings, Vidyasagar Setu, and the Maidan. Personnel at the Hastings Police Station initially spotted the objects, noting their resemblance to conventional drones. The Centre has requested a report from the West Bengal government to address security concerns.
The objects' movements were tracked from Maheshtala in the South 24 Parganas district, hovering over strategic sites like Fort William. The Special Task Force and Detective Department are investigating potential espionage activities in connection with the drone sightings.
