Sea Turtle Conservation: Global Efforts Show Positive Impact in 2025

19:51, 01 May

Edited by: Inna Horoshkina One

Worldwide, sea turtle populations are showing positive signs of recovery because of dedicated conservation efforts. A recent study underscores the effectiveness of local and global initiatives in protecting these marine creatures. These efforts include minimizing light pollution on beaches, reducing bycatch, and establishing protected marine areas.

Despite these successes, sea turtles still face significant threats in 2025. Accidental capture in fishing gear, habitat destruction, and plastic pollution continue to endanger these species. Climate change also poses a risk, influencing nesting sites and the sex ratios of hatchlings.

Organizations and communities worldwide are actively involved in sea turtle conservation. For example, Clearwater Marine Aquarium is hosting Sea Turtle Awareness Day on April 5, 2025, and Diani Turtle Watch in Kenya is protecting nesting sites. These ongoing efforts are crucial to ensuring the long-term survival of sea turtles.
