The Meliponary at Bosque Zoológico Fábio Barreto in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, has been revitalized after 10 years, significantly enhancing its capacity for bee conservation and environmental education.
The restoration included replacing all beehives, legalizing the space with state agencies, and transferring beehives from other city locations. The Meliponary now houses 15 beehives, including 12 new ones, and approximately 20,000 bees.
This initiative aims to promote educational activities for students and tourists, reinforcing Ribeirão Preto's recognition as a "Bee Friendly City." The project received support from the NGO Bee or not to Be and Apis Flora, focusing on environmental education and bee product expertise, respectively.
