Railworld Wildlife Haven, a nature site and museum in Peterborough, UK, has been awarded the Sustainable Project of the Year at the Museums and Heritage Awards. The project beat out international competition, including the Natural History Museum and projects from Egypt, the Netherlands, USA and Australia.
The award recognizes Railworld's dedication to environmental sustainability and the vision of its founders and volunteers. Started in 1985, the haven transformed a derelict coal yard into a thriving habitat for over 300 species of flora and fauna.
The site features repurposed artifacts, including Victorian aqueducts and materials from the city center. Railworld also focuses on environmental education through its 'Globe Hall Earth Centre,' offering hands-on activities about climate change and sustainability.
