The Communauté d'Agglomération du Grand Nord de Mayotte (CAGNM) has partnered with Gepomay to create a Biodiversity Atlas. This initiative aims to preserve the region's rich biodiversity by cataloging its flora and fauna.
The atlas will involve local residents, especially young people, in environmental protection efforts. It also includes training for agents and elected officials. Each municipality will receive a comprehensive diagnostic report and action plan developed with partners.
The project will inventory protected species in northern Mayotte, including the white crab plover, turtles, mangroves, and botanical species like the Humblot's coffee tree. The atlas will serve as a decision-making tool, balancing development with environmental protection.
