Gijón is progressing with its "Gijón Ecoresiliente" urban renaturalization project, showcasing sustainable solutions across the city. This initiative focuses on areas like La Calzada and Viesques, implementing innovative approaches such as Stockholm System tree planting beds.
"Gijón Ecoresiliente" demonstrates the city's commitment to a sustainable urban model by renaturalizing spaces, enhancing permeability, and improving habitat connectivity. Launched in July 2022, the project is scheduled to conclude in July 2025, supported by European funding through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
Notable progress includes green infrastructure enhancements at Plaza de La Habana, completed in May 2025, which increased green spaces and tree planting. These efforts highlight Gijón's dedication to creating a more resilient and environmentally friendly urban environment for its residents.
