The Brazilian government has filed 12 lawsuits against environmental offenders responsible for destroying native vegetation across the Amazon, Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, Pampa, and Pantanal biomes. The lawsuits seek millions in damages for the deforestation of 6,800 hectares across 11 states.
The legal actions, brought by the Attorney General's Office (AGU) under the AGU Recupera initiative, target 20 individuals based on infraction notices and reports from Ibama.
Damages sought include the costs of vegetation restoration, compensation for collective damages, and recovery of illicit gains from the destruction. One case involves deforestation in the Atlantic Forest, where a court order mandates the cessation of land exploitation and natural regeneration.
