Antarctic Skies: Severe Geomagnetic Storm May Trigger Southern Lights June 1-2

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

A severe G4 geomagnetic storm, predicted by NOAA NWS Space Weather Prediction Center, may cause visible auroras in Antarctica on June 1-2.

The storm, triggered by intense solar activity, could impact spacecraft operations and satellite systems. However, it presents a unique opportunity to observe the Aurora Australis.

Visible in the Antarctic Peninsula, Tierra del Fuego, and potentially Aysén, the auroras will display moving lights in green, red, blue, or purple hues. Authorities advise those reliant on satellite services to prepare for possible disruptions.
