Economic analyst Adrian Negrescu, speaking on Europa FM, has expressed concerns about the potential increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) in Romania. He suggests that such a move would disproportionately affect the most vulnerable Romanians.
Negrescu further predicts that a VAT increase could backfire on the state. He anticipates that many Romanians will reduce their consumption, and companies will seek ways to avoid paying a higher VAT.
Negrescu also commented on the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Romania, stating that the IMF's goal is to make a profit. He considers a VAT increase to be the most serious fiscal decision since the previous crisis.
