Chile Scraps Income Tax Reform Project Due to Lack of Congressional Support

Edited by: Elena Weismann

Chile's Finance Minister Mario Marcel has announced the indefinite postponement of the proposed income tax reform. The decision stems from a lack of support within the Chilean Congress. The government will now prioritize other legislative matters deemed more likely to pass.

Marcel stated that the government will not pursue changes to income taxes at this time. Instead, they will focus on projects with a higher probability of approval. The Finance Minister also mentioned plans to work on changes to taxes paid by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
